Engine Work Continues
These are some of the latest from the engine project. Dad and I are working on it with Ray at his place.
- Shock towers are welded for extra strength in hard cornering
- The new timing chain from Australia Muscle Parts. I got this one because it has a needle bearing thrust plate that nicely prevents cam walk. Also it’s very well made.
- New timing gear from Australia Muscle Parts. You can see that the mounting pin is not level to the gear. We later notched the washer on the mount bolt to match that and provide a true bearing surface.
- Ray’s garage/shop
- filing a ring
- I’m filing a ring for exact fit. This process took the better part of the first half of the day.
- We used this aluminum cylinder to push each ring into the block at the same depth for measurement
- Checking the ring gap with feeler gauges
- rings and pistons clean and ready to install
- Dad is checking the ring gap.
- Dad and I clean the pistons. It’s a painstaking task to clean each one completely
- Final torque on the main bearing cap studs
- I install a piston
- Dad installs a piston
- Dad and I are putting in the bore coat from Total seal that should help the rings seat on break-in.
- final torquing of the rod bolts
